1. Many have undertaken to write the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but all who succeed have done so by dictating what the Spirit of Truth has spoken to them, and all who hear the Gospel hear it only through the Spirit of Truth who communicates it.
2. This is the record of the life and teachings of our Lord and Savior, the Son of Man, the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
3. For the living Christ has shown us that whosoever discovers the truth of His secret sayings will never taste death but will inherit eternal life.
4. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The universe has come into being from that Word, and all things are composed of it. The Word is life. And that life is the Light within us.
5. And though the Light shines in the darkness of the world, the world has not understood it; for the Light came into the world and took the form of a man, and though the Light was the Creator of the world, the world did not recognize Him.
6. But to those who do recognize Him, He has given the power to become one with Him who is one with God.
7. In the past, God gave us the law, but Jesus Christ has fulfilled the law with truth, love, and unity. So, we have passed through the law and into the grace of God.
8. For no one has ever seen God except those who are begotten of God. Jesus Christ--the Son of God--has shown God to us.
