Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 52

1. On that very day, two men who had followed Jesus were walking to a village about seven miles outside Jerusalem.

2. While they were walking, they talked to one another about the things that had taken place while they were with Jesus.

3. And as they walked, Jesus approached them, and began to travel with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing who He was.

4. And He asked them, "Who is this man you are talking about?" And the two men stopped and began to grieve.

5. One of them, whose name was Cleopas, said, "Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know what has taken place these last few days?"

6. And Jesus said, "What things?"

7. And they said to Him, "The things about Jesus, who was a prophet and did mighty works and was favored by God.

8. "The Chief Priest and Pharisees betrayed Him to Pilate, and He was crucified. And all the while we were hoping that He was the one who would finally free us. It has been three days since His death.

9. "One of our company, Mary, said she went to His tomb and had a vision of an angel who said He was alive, and so we went to look for ourselves some time after, but all we found was an empty tomb."

10. And Jesus said to them, "You foolish men. How slow you are to believe all the things that the Christ has shown you.

11. "Was it not necessary for Christ to suffer these things to enter His glory?"

12. And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted for them all the scriptures concerning himself, but still He did not reveal Himself.

13. And as they approached the village where they were going, He continued as though He were traveling farther. But they urged Him saying, "Why not stay with us for the evening? There is almost no daylight left."

14. So, Jesus went with them and stayed where they were at, and when He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and after breaking it, He gave it to them.

15. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him; and then He vanished from their sight.

16. And they said to one another, "Were we not burning in our hearts as He walked with us and told us everything about the scriptures!"

17. And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and finding the eleven they reported, "The Lord has truly risen, and He has appeared to us!"

18. Then as they were all gathered in one room, and the door was shut, Christ appeared in their midst saying, "Peace be with you."

19. And He showed them the holes in His hands and feet, and Thomas said, "Lord, it is You!"

20. And Jesus said, "Thomas, you believe because you have seen Me; but blessed are those who will believe without seeing."

21. Then Philip asked, "Lord, why can I not see the Father?"

22. Jesus answered saying, "When you see your likeness in a mirror you are satisfied, but when you see the image of yourself that came into being before you and that neither dies nor becomes visible, how will you bear that?

23. The Father is disclosed, but His image is hidden in His own light. Let the one who has ears to hear, hear this."

24. Then Andrew asked, "Lord will we miss the kingdom of God when it comes?"

25. And Jesus said, "The Father's kingdom is like a woman who was carrying a full jar of meal. While she was walking home along a distant road, a hole broke in the jar, and the meal spilled out behind her along the road.

26. "She did not notice, but when she reached her house, she put down the jar and discovered it was empty. Therefore always watch, and never sleep."

27. Matthew said, "Now You are like the ancient prophets that have come to Israel in the past.

28. And Jesus said, "But you have disregarded the living one in your presence and have spoken only of the dead. Look to the living one so long as you live, otherwise you may die, and then try to see the living one, but you will not be able to."

29. After that, Christ gave to them His final teaching saying, "All authority is given to Me in heaven and on earth. I have come from what is whole.

30. "Go, therefore, and preach the Gospel to all creation, doing so in the name of the Father, and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit."

31. Then Christ breathed on them all and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit." And they each received the Spirit of Truth as Christ breathed upon them.
