Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 19

1. After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea. A large crowd followed Him, because they saw the signs that He was performing on those who were sick.

2. For this reason, Jesus went up on a mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples. And seeing another large crowd gathering, He felt compassion for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd.

3. So He healed the sick among them, and then said to Philip as the evening was approaching, "Where are we to buy food to feed all these people?"

4. He said this to test Philip, because He already knew what He was going to do.

5. Philip answered and said, "This is a desolate place. We should send them away into the towns and villages so they can find food to eat. Even two hundred gold coins are not enough to buy food for all these people--even if all had only a little to eat."

6. "Philip," Jesus said, "They, do not need to go away; you give them something to eat."

7. Then Andrew said to Jesus, "There is a boy here who has five loaves of bread and two fish, but what are these for so many people?"

8. Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was much grass in the area, and the people sat in groups of fifty and one hundred and they numbered about five thousand, not including all the children who were with them.

9. Jesus then took the loaves, and after looking to heaven and blessing the food, He distributed the food to His disciples who then distributed it to those who were seated.

10. He distributed the fish as well in the same manner, and all who were there ate as much as they wanted.

11. And when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted."

12. So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets full from the original five loaves and two fish.

13. And when the people saw this sign that He had done, they said, "Surely this is a prophet of God who has come into the world."

14. After this, He made His disciples get into a boat and go ahead of Him to the other side of the sea. Then He sent the crowd on their way.

15. And after He sent the crowds away, He went up on a mountain by Himself to pray in the evening.

16. The disciples in the boat began to encounter a storm, and the wind tossed the sea about, and they began to fear for their lives.

17. Then, late in the night during the storm, the disciples saw Jesus coming to them, walking over the waves on the surface of the water, and He intended to pass by them.

18. But they were terrified for they were certain they were seeing a ghost.

19. And they cried out in terror, but Jesus spoke to them saying, "Have courage; it is I."

20. So, Peter said to Him, "Lord, if it is really You, command me to come to You on the water."

21. Jesus said to him, "Come unto Me."

22. At that, Peter got out of the boat and walked on the surface of the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the storm and the waves, he became frightened, and then he began to sink.

23. Peter cried out, "Lord, save me!"

24. And immediately, Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him and said, "You of little faith; why did you doubt?"

25. When they got into the boat, the other disciples cried out "Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die!"

26. So, He stood in the bow of the boat and rebuked the wind and the sea saying, "Hush; be still," and suddenly the wind stopped and the waves became still.

27. And Jesus said to them all, "Why are you so afraid? Even after the loaves and fishes, do you still have no faith?"

28. And then the boat was instantly on the other side of the sea sitting on the shore. And those who were in the boat worshiped Jesus saying, "You must be the Son of God."

29. When the people of that place recognized Him, they sent word into all the surrounding areas, and all who were sick were brought to Him.

30. And they begged Him that they may just touch the fringe of His garments; and as many as touched it were cured.
