Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 31

1. There came a time when one of the Pharisees, Simon, was requesting that Jesus dine with him and his colleagues in secret. So Jesus came to Simon's house and entered it, and sat at the table.

2. Also there was a prostitute in this same village. When she heard that Jesus was sitting at the table in the religious leader's house, she brought to the house an alabaster jar of perfumed lotion.

3. And standing behind Him, she fell to her knees weeping and began to wet His feet with her tears. She wiped the tears off His feet with her hair and anointed them with the perfume.

4. When Simon saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner."

5. And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you."

6. And Simon answered asking, "What is it, Teacher."

7. "A money lender had two debtors: one owed five hundred and the other owed fifty.

8. "When they were unable to pay their debt, he forgave them both. So, which of them will love him more?"

9. Simon answered, "I suppose the one that received the most forgiveness." And Jesus said to him, "You have judged correctly."

10. Turning to the woman, Jesus said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house, but you gave Me no water to wash My feet, and yet she has washed them with her tears and dried them with her hair.

11. "You did not welcome Me with so much as a handshake, but she has not stopped kissing My feet since I arrived.

12. "For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she has loved much; but the one who is self-righteous loves little."

13. Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."

14. But the others at the table with Him began to say to themselves, "Who is this man that He dare to forgive sins?"

15. And He said to the woman, "Go in peace; your faith has saved you."

16. At that point a lawyer stood up at the table and wanting to put Jesus to the test asked Him, "Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?"

17. Jesus replied, "What is written in the law? How do you interpret it?"

18. And the lawyer replied, "You should love God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul, and all your strength; and you should love your neighbor as yourself."

19. Jesus said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live."

20. But wishing to complicate the matter, he asked, "But who is my neighbor?"

21. Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers on the road. They stripped him, beat him, and went away leaving him nearly dead.

22. "By chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

23. "Likewise a Levite also came by, but when he came to the place where the man lay and saw him, he too crossed and passed him by.

24. "But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him.

25. "He medicated and bandaged the man's wounds, put him on his own beast and brought him to an inn where he was well known and took care of him through the night, watching that he did not worsen.

26. "In the morning, he gave the innkeeper money, and said, 'Take care of him, and whatever money you spend, when I return, I will repay you.'

27. "Now, which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robber's hands?"

28. And the lawyer answered, "The one who showed mercy toward him."

29. Jesus replied, "Go and do likewise."
