Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 50

1. When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that a riot was about to ensue, he washed his hands in a bowl of water in view of the crowd and said, "I will be innocent of this blood."

2. And the Pharisees, the Chief Priest, and all the crowed shouted, "His blood shall be on us and our children!"

3. Then Pilate released Barabbas to them, and sentenced Jesus to the executioners to be scourged and crucified according to the will of the people.

4. And they took Him from the seat of judgment to the dungeon where the guards spat on Him and beat Him with a stick and slapped His face.

5. They dressed Him in a purple robe, and one of them twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head. Another put a reed in His right hand.

6. All the while they mocked Him and knelt before Him saying, "Hail! king of the world!"

7. Then on Pilate's orders, He was brought back out for the crowd to view. He was wearing the purple robe and crown of thorns.

8. And Pilate said to the crowd, "I bring Him to you again to show you I have found no guilt in Him. Behold the man!"

9. But again the Jews cried out, "Crucify Him! For He has claimed to be the Son of God!"

10. For this reason, Pilate became even more concerned, and he took Jesus back to the seat of judgment and asked Him, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.

11. So Pilate shouted at Him, "You will not speak to me? Do You not realize I have the power to free You or to crucify You?"

12. Then Jesus answered and said, "You would have no power over Me were it not given to you from above. For this reason, the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

13. After that, Pilate brought Jesus back out and said, "Behold, your king!"

14. But the Chief Priest cried out, "Crucify Him!" So, Pilate sent Him back to the dungeon.

15. Then after they mocked Him again, they took off the purple robe, and took the reed and beat Him on the head with it.

16. Then they put His own garments back on Him and lead Him out to a hill outside Jerusalem to be crucified. Along with Him were two criminals who were also being led out for crucifixion.

17. Along the way, they forced a passerby to bear His cross and to take it up the hill. And following Jesus was a large crowd, and in the crowd were women who were mourning and crying out in sorrow.

18. And Jesus said to them, "Daughters of the world, do not weep for Me. Weep for yourselves and for your children. Behold, the days are coming when they will say, blessed are those who never had children.

19. "The future will beg the mountains and hills to cover them, for if they do these things when the grass is green, what shall happen when it is dry?"

20. When He arrived at the top of the hill, they offered him wine to drink, mingled with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not drink it.

21. Then they nailed His hands and feet to the cross, raised the cross, and crucified Him.

22. And as He hung on the cross, the guards divided up His clothing, deciding who would take what by drawing lots. And the guards mocked Him, saying, "Why do You not save Yourself?"

23. And Jesus looked down upon the people who were crucifying Him and said to God, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."

24. As people passed by, they hurled insults at Him. They shook their heads laughing and saying, "So You were going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days, but You cannot even come down from Your cross."

25. As well, the Pharisees and Chief Priest were mocking Him saying, "He saved others, but He cannot save Himself?

26. "Let this Christ come down from the cross, then we will see and believe. If He is the Son of God, let God save Him if He delights in Him."

27. The two criminals were also crucified with Him, one on His right and one on His left. The one on His left hurled abuses at Him saying, "Why do You not save Yourself and us, too, if You are the Christ!"

28. But the one on His right rebuked the other saying, "Do you not fear God even in your hour of death? We deserve what we are getting, but this man has done nothing."

29. Then he said to Him, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."

30. And Jesus said to him, "Truly I tell you, this day you shall be with Me in paradise."

31. Three hours later, darkness fell across the land, and it stayed that way for three hours. And at the end of that darkness Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me!"

32. Then Jesus said, "Father, it is finished. Into Your hands I commend My Spirit."

33. With that, He breathed His last breath, yielded up His Spirit; and Jesus died.
