Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 23

1. Jesus taught His disciples: "A student is not above the teacher, nor a slave above the master. It is enough for the student to become like the teacher, and it is enough that a slave become like the master.

2. "If they called the master Satan, how much more will they malign the members of the master's household? Truly I tell you, the one who receives you--receives Me.

3. "But do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed or hidden that will not be known.

4. "What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light, and what you hear whispered in your ear, shout it from the housetops.

5. "Never fear those who can kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; rather fear the one who can destroy both the body and the soul.

6. "Two foul are sold for a dollar, and yet not one falls to the ground apart from your Father.

7. "Indeed, even the very hairs of your head are numbered.

8. "So, never fear the world; you are far more valuable than many birds."

9. Then Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and I guard it until it blazes. How I wish it were already burning!

10. "But I have a baptism to undergo, and I am greatly distressed until it is finished.

11. "So, do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth, for I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

12. "I have come to cast conflicts upon the world--fire, sword, and wars!

13. "I came to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother. Indeed, on account of Me, a person's enemies will be the members of their own household.

14. "For the one who does not hate their mother and father, sisters and brothers, husband or wife, and even their own life, is not worthy of Me. They cannot be My disciple.

15. "And the one who does not take up their cross daily and follow Me is not worthy of Me.

16. "For I tell you truly, the one who clings to their life will lose it, but the one who loses their life for My sake will find it.

17. "After all, which one of you, when you want to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost to see if you have enough to complete it?

18. "Otherwise, when you have laid the foundation and then are not able to finish, all who observe it will begin to ridicule you saying, 'You started a job but could not finish!'

19. "Or what king or queen, when setting out to battle another kingdom does not first sit down and consider if they are strong enough with ten thousand soldiers to encounter the enemy who has twenty thousand?

20. "If you do not give up all your possessions--if you do not give up your life, you cannot be My disciple."
