1. Then it came to pass that Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand, and the brothers of Jesus came to Him saying, "Leave here, and go into the city so all Your followers may see the works You are doing.
2. "For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You really can do these things, then why not show Yourself to the world?"
3. His brothers said these things to Him, because even they were beginning to disbelieve in Him.
4. Nevertheless, Jesus stayed out of the city and told His brothers, "Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go, because My time has not yet fully come."
5. But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, He then went Himself, but hidden rather than publicly.
6. When He got to the city, indeed the Jews were trying to find Him, asking, "Where is He?"
7. There was much grumbling in the crowds about Him; some were saying, "He is a good man." Others were saying, "No, He is the opposite, and He leads the people astray."
8. Yet no one would speak out for Him in public for fear of the Jews.
9. But as the feast was underway, Jesus revealed Himself in the temple and began to teach.
10. And the things He said astonished the Jews, and they said among themselves, "How has this man become learned having studied?"
11. So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone is willing to do His will, that one will know whether this teaching is of God or whether I speak from Myself.
12. "Those who speak from themselves seek their own glory; but those who seek the glory of the Father who sent them, those are true, and there is no unrighteousness in them.
13. "Did not Moses give you the law you hold so dearly, and yet not one of you follows it. Why is it that you seek to kill Me?"
14. The crowd answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?"
15. Jesus answered, "From the time I healed a man on the Sabbath, you have sought to kill Me. But you would have been better to judge with righteous judgment."
16. Some of the people in the crowed were asking, "Is this not the man the Jews are seeking to arrest? But look; He is speaking publicly and they are saying nothing to Him. They must not know that He is the Christ."
17. And some in the crowd said, "This cannot be the Christ, because we know where this man is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from."
18. Jesus, hearing this, cried out in the temple, "You know Me, and you know where I am from, but you do not know the one who sent Me. I know the one who sent Me, because I am from Him."
19. In saying these things, Jesus angered the crowd, and they sought to capture Him and execute Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His time had not yet come.
20. Still, many in the crowd came to believe in Jesus, because they said to themselves, it would not be possible for Christ to come and do more signs than He has done.
21. The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about Jesus, so the chief priests sent out officers to seize Him.
22. Knowing this, Jesus said to the people, "For a little while longer I am with you, then I go to Him who sent Me.
23. "Often you have longed to hear these things from Me, and you have no one else from whom to hear them. Yet soon, you will look for Me, but you will not find Me; for where I am you cannot come."
24. And the people said, "Where is this man going that we will not find Him?"
25. Then on the last day of the feast, Jesus cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let that one come to Me and drink, and anyone who believes in Me, from their innermost being will flow rivers of living water!"
26. Even the officers of the chief priests returned to the leaders saying, "Never has a man spoke like this."
27. But the Pharisees mocked them saying, "Have you also been fooled and led astray!"
28. Nicodemus (the one who spoke with Jesus in the night) said, "Surely we are not going to condemn a man before hearing what He has to say?"
29. But they answered him, "Look in our scriptures and you will see that Christ does not come from us."
30. And then each of them went their own way to their own homes.
31. But Jesus, Himself, went to the Mount of Olives.
