Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 15

1. Jesus asked His disciples, "Who do the people say the Son of Man is?"

2. And they said, "Some say You are John the Baptist. Others say You are a prophet. Still others say You are the return of Elijah or Jeremiah."

3. "But who do you say that I am?"

4. Peter answered saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God."

5. And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Peter. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in heaven has done so. And I say to you that upon that rock I will build My church--and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

6. "To you, I will give the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you let loose on earth will be let loose in heaven."

7. Then He warned them all to tell no one that He was the Christ.

8. He asked them again, "Compare me to something and tell me what I am like."

9. And Peter said, "You are like a messenger."

10. Matthew said, "You are like a wise philosopher."

11. But Thomas said to Him, "Teacher, my mouth is utterly unable to say what you are like."

12. Jesus said, "Then I am not your teacher. Rather, you have drunk from and become intoxicated by the bubbling spring that I have tended."

13. Then Jesus took Thomas aside and spoke three things to him, and when they returned, the others asked Thomas what Jesus had said.

14. But he said to them, "If I tell you even one of the sayings He spoke to me, you will pick up rocks to stone me, and fire will come from those rocks and consume you."

15. From that time, Jesus began to show His followers that He must go to the Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and then He must be killed, but after three days, He was to rise again.

16. He was stating the matter plainly, but Peter took Him aside and began to chastise Him, saying, "This will never happen to You. You must not let it happen."

17. But He said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; you are not setting your mind on God's will but on human desire."

18. Then Jesus turned to His disciples and said, "If anyone wishes to come after me, they must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me daily.

19. "For anyone who wishes to save their life will lose it; but whoever loses their life for My sake and that of the Gospel will find it.

20. "What does it profit a person to gain the entire world and forfeit their very soul, or what can a person give in exchange for their soul?

21. "For the Son of Man is going to come in God's glory with the angels and will repay everyone according to their deeds. And whoever is ashamed of Me and My word in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person before the Father.

22. "Truly I tell you, there are some of those who are standing here right now who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
