1. In the wilderness, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit to be tempted by Satan.
2. He fasted for forty days, and at the end of it, He was hungry. Then Satan came to Him saying, "If you are the Son of God, why do You not tell these stones to become bread?"
3. But Jesus said to him, "One does not live on bread alone. One lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
4. Then Satan took Him to the Holy City, and they stood on the very pinnacle of the temple, and he said to Him, "Why do You not jump off from here? If You are the Son of God, He will command His angels to protect You and bear You up, even to keep You from striking Your foot against a stone."
5. But Jesus said to him, "You will not test God."
6. After that, Satan took Jesus to the top of a high mountain, and below them, all the kingdoms of the world shone in their glory, and Satan said to Him, "All of this is mine. It has been given to me, and I can give it to whomever I want. I will give it to You if You only fall down and worship me."
7. But Jesus said to him, "I will worship the Lord my God, and He alone."
8. At that, Satan left Him for a more opportune time, and the angels of God came and ministered to the Son of Man.
