1. Then Jesus began to teach His disciples saying, "Seek Me not because you saw signs, or because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
2. Do not work for food which wastes away, but work for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, for on Him God has set His seal."
3. So the disciples said to Him, "What should we do that we may do the works of God?"
4. Jesus answered, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.
5. "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will never hunger again. He who believes in Me will never thirst again."
6. Then they said to Him, "Lord always give us this bread."
7. And He answered, "But you have seen Me, and yet you still do not believe.
8. "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me, I will not cast out.
9. "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
10. "For this is the will of the Father, that of all He has given Me, I will lose nothing, and that all who behold the Son and believe in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise them up on the last day."
11. But then the religious leaders began grumbling about Him, because He said He was the bread of life.
12. They were saying to themselves, "Is this not the Jesus whose parents we know, whose father was a carpenter? And now He says He is the bread of life from heaven?"
13. But Jesus answered them saying, "Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws that person to Me; and it is that person whom I will raise up on the last day.
14. "Everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to Me.
15. "Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the one who is from the Father; only that one has seen the Father.
16. "I say again, I am the bread of life; the life of the world is My flesh. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood will live forever.
17. In truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of God and drink His blood, you have no life in you.
18. "Whoever drinks from My mouth will become like Me; I, Myself, shall become that person, and the hidden things will be revealed to them."
19. Then the people began to say, "How can this man give us His flesh to eat?"
20. But Jesus continued, "The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life in them, and I will raise them up on the last day.
21. "For My flesh is the true food, and My blood is the true drink, and the one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me and I in them.
22. "Indeed, lucky is the lion that the human will eat, for then that beast becomes a human being.
23. "During the time when you ate what was dead, you made it alive with you. When you are in the light, what will you do?
24. "For just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so the one who eats of Me also lives, because of Me.
25. "On the day when you were one, you became two--but now you are two, so what is required?
26. "I am the bread of life. The one who eats this bread will live forever, and the living will never die."
27. These things Jesus taught in the temple; therefore, many of His disciples heard this teaching and said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
28. Jesus, conscious of what they were saying, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?
29. "Then what if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
30. "Truly I tell you, blessed is the one who does not take offense at Me."
31. "It is the spirit who gives life; the flesh counts for nothing; the words I have spoken to you are spirit, and they are life.
32. "But there are some of you who do not believe Me. For this reason, I have said to you that no one comes to Me unless the Father first grants it."
33. As a result of this teaching, many of His disciples fell away and no longer walked with Him. So Jesus asked the twelve disciples remaining, "Will you go away, too?"
34. But Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know who You are--the Holy One of God."
35. Jesus answered them, "And yet one of you is Satan."
36. He said this meaning Judas, who would eventually betray Him. Yet each disciple wondered if they were the one.
