Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 16

1. Later, they came across a man born blind from birth, and His disciples asked Him, "Teacher, who sinned? Was it this man or was it his parent's sin that caused him to be born blind?"

2. Jesus answered, "It was not for this man's sin nor the sins of his parent's that he was born blind, but rather so the works of God might be made manifest in him."

3. "We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as there is daylight. For the night is approaching when no one can work.

4. "While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."

5. When He had said this, He knelt down and spit in the dirt to make a mudpack, and He placed the mud on the blind man's eyelids and said to him, "Go wash in the fountain."

6. So he went away and washed in the public fountain and came back seeing.

7. Therefore, the man's neighbors and those who had witnessed him begging in the streets were saying, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"

8. Others were saying, "Surely, this is he." But others were saying, "No, it is only someone who looks like him." But the man who was originally born blind continued to say, "I am the one."

9. So, they said to him, "How then were your eyes opened?"

10. And he said to them, "Jesus made a mudpack and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to the public fountain and wash.'; so I went away and washed, and I gained my sight."

11. Then they said to him, "Where is this Jesus?" But he answered them, "I do not know."

12. So, they brought the man who was formerly blind to the Pharisees, and again it was the sabbath when Jesus had made the mudpack and opened his eyes.

13. The religious leaders began to question the man and asked, "How did you receive your sight?" And he said to them, "He applied a mudpack to my eyes; then I washed, and now I see."

14. Some of the religious leaders said, "This Jesus is not from God, because He does not obey the rules of the sabbath." But others said, "How can a sinner perform such signs and wonders."

15. And they asked the former blind man, "What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?"

16. And the man said, "Surely, He is a prophet."

17. The religious leaders stopped believing that the man had even been born blind to begin with, until they called the parents of this very one who had received his sight.

18. And they questioned them saying, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? If so, then how does he now see?"

19. His parents answered the leaders and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind, but we do not know how he can now see. But why do you not ask him? He is of age."

20. His parents said, "He is of age; ask him," because they knew that the religious leaders had agreed that whoever said Jesus was the Christ, would be thrown out of the Church.

21. So, a second time, they called the man who had been born blind and said to him, "Praise God, and then admit that this Jesus is a sinner."

22. He answered them and said, "Whether or not He is a sinner, I do not know, but I do know that where once I was blind, now I can see."

23. So they asked, "What did He do? How did He open your eyes?"

24. The man said to them, "I already told you once, and you did not listen; why do you want to hear the same story again? Do you want to become His disciples, as well?"

25. Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God spoke to the Moses, but we do not even know where this Jesus is from."

26. The man responded by saying, "This is an amazing thing. You are the priests, yet you do not know where Jesus is from, and yet He opened my eyes. We know that God does not hear from sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears them.

27. "Since the beginning of time it has never been heard of that anyone restored the sight of a person born blind. If Jesus were not from God, He could do nothing."

28. But the religious leaders replied, "You were born in sin and are steeped in it, and yet you are teaching us?"

29. Then, from the temple, they cast out the man who could now see.

30. When Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and when He found him, He asked, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

31. He answered, "Who is He Lord--that I might believe in Him?"

32. Jesus said, "You have seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you now."

33. And the man who now saw everything clearly replied, "Yes, Lord, I do believe."

34. Then Jesus said, "For judgment I came into the word, so those who do not see may see, and those who see become blind."

35. Some of the religious leaders heard Him say this and said to Him, "Surely, we are not blind."

36. But Jesus replied, "If you were blind, you'd be free from sin, but since you claim to see, your sin remains."
