Veridican Gospel of Jesus Christ

Chapter 42

1. Then Jesus spoke to His disciples saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; so practice and observe whatever they tell you, but not what they do; for they do not practice what they preach.

2. "They tie heavy burdens on your back, but they themselves are unwilling to move their finger to carry them.

3. "They do all their deeds to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. And they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues. They love the salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men.

4. "But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ.

5. He who is greatest among you shall be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

6. Then Jesus showed to His disciples the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. And He showed them a poor widow putting in two small copper coins.

7. And He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all of the rich people did.

8. "For they have given out of their surplus, but she has given all that she had to live on--even from her poverty."

9. Then Jesus said to the religious leaders, "Woe to you religious leaders, for you travel the world to make one convert, and when they become one, you make them twice as much a child of hell as yourselves!

10. "You clean the outside of the dish, but the inside is full of robbery and self-indulgence.

11. "You brood of vipers and serpents; how will you ever escape your sentence of hell?

12. "Truly, I tell you that the prostitutes, tax collectors, and all form of sinners will enter the kingdom of God before you."

13. Then when Jesus had finished teaching, He said to His disciples in private, "You know that in two days the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion, but do not grieve.

14. "For truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much more.

15. "If anyone is to serve Me, they must follow Me, and where I am, there they must also be.

16. "The one who loves their life in this world will lose it. Those who hate their life in this world will find eternal life."

17. But when the disciples heard this they were grieved and discussed among themselves how they could hide Jesus.

18. At the same time, the chief priests and the elders of the temple were gathered together in the court of the high priest, Caiaphas; and they were plotting how they might seize Jesus in secret and kill Him, but they were afraid of the people rioting if they did.

19. Then one of the disciples, Judas, came to them and said, "What will you pay me to betray Him to you?" And they offered thirty silver coins to him, and from then on, Judas began looking for a good moment to betray Jesus.

20. Therefore, Jesus no longer taught in the temple of Jerusalem. For though He had performed many signs, the people were falling away from Him on account of His hard teachings.

21. And even though some of the religious leaders agreed with Him and knew that He spoke the truth, they said nothing, fearing they would be put out of the temple--for they valued the opinions of men rather than the approval of God.

22. When Jesus was alone with Mary, Thomas, and John, He said to them, "What shall I say, 'Father, save Me from this hour?' But it was for this hour I came into being.

23. "Now judgment has come upon the world, and the ruler of this world is cast out, and if I be lifted up from the world, I will draw all man unto Me.

24. "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.

25. "For a little while longer, the Light is with you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness does not overtake you, for the one who walks in the dark does not know where they are going.

26. "Truly I tell you, while you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become children of the Light.

27. "For the one who believes in Me does not believe in Me alone, but in Him who sent Me, and the one who sees Me, sees the one who sent Me.

28. "I am the Light that is over all things. I am all. From Me, all came forth, and to Me all is attained.

29. "Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up a stone, and you will find Me there.

30. "If anyone hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge that person, because I did not come into the world to judge the world, but to save the world.

31. "For the one who rejects My word has one who judges them--the very word I have given will judge them on the last day.

32. "For I do not speak from My own initiative, but rather the Father who sent Me has told Me what to say, and His words are eternal life. Therefore, when I speak, I speak only what the Father has told Me.

33. "So, whoever is near Me is near the fire, and whoever is far from Me, is far from the Father's kingdom."
